Taiwan (the Republic of China) is a tiny island. It has an area of roughly 36,000 square kilometers, smaller than the Netherlands (41,500 km2). The population is about 23 million, less than Delhi (25.8 million in 2015), the world’s second-largest city. Nonetheless, economic-wise, Taiwan was the 7th largest in Asia and the 22nd largest in the world by purchasing power parity (PPP) in 2019. According to The World Bank, Taiwan has also ranked the 15th easiest place for doing business, among the 190 economies surveyed, and the 4th (next to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia) in East Asia & Pacific.
